Memphis offers a multitude of events throughout the year for your family to enjoy, but this is especially true during the upcoming Fall Months. Cooler temperatures brings everyone out together in the city to partake in concerts, sports events and cultural fun. There are too many events to list, but here are some of our favorites that we think help represent the spirit of Memphis and the heart of the city: family fun!
Journey
Mud Island Amphitheatre
September 13
In a career spanning five decades, Journey is blazing hotter than ever. You won’t stop believin’ your ears when you hear Journey live in concert at the Mud Island Amphitheatre in Memphis.
Live at the Garden with Darius Rucker
Memphis Botanic Garden
September 20
Darius Rucker brings country to Memphis. Here’s your chance to see him live under the stars, amid a beautiful garden setting at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Act now, this event will sellout.
University of Memphis Football vs. Middle Tennessee
Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium
September 20
The University of Memphis Tigers take on the Lightning of Middle Tennessee State at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 20. Come early and get pumped up with a free concert by country singer/songwriter Pat Green. Admission to the concert is free and does not require a game ticket for admission.
The Phantom of the Opera
Orpheum Theatre
September 24 – October 5
The Phantom of the Opera comes to Memphis as part of a brand new North American Tour. The beloved story and thrilling score – with songs like “Music of the Night,” “All I Ask Of You,” and “Masquerade” – sets the mood for a thrilling night of theater.
Cooper-Young Regional Beerfest
Midtown Memphis
October 11
The Cooper-Young Regional Beer Fest is one of my favorite annual Memphis beer tastings. The selection of regional craft beers is pretty great and a limited number of tickets are sold every year, which means that the lines are shorter, thus, there’s more time for beer tasting.
Memphis Outdoor Festival
Shelby Farms Park
October 18 – 19
If you love trail running and biking, rejoice! The very first Memphis Outdoor Festival is happening this year at Shelby Farms Park. There will be mountain bike races, trail running races, a beer garden, paddle boarding, dock dogs competition and a ton more things to do and see.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
FedExForum
October 22
The Grizzlies face LeBron James and the new-look Cavs in an exhibition game at the FedExForum. Single game tickets for all regular season and preseason contests will go on sale September 27. Purchase tickets by calling 1-800-4NBATIX, online at Ticketmaster.com or at the FedExForum Box Office.
Indie Memphis Film Festival
October 30 – November 2
The 17th edition of the Indie Memphis Film Festival is set for Playhouse on the Square, Circuit Playhouse, Malco Theatre’s Studio on the Square, and the new Hattiloo Theatre – all located in and around Midtown’s Overton Square. Ranked by MovieMaker Magazine as one the “25 Coolest Film Festivals,” the Indie Memphis Film Festival brings a broad range of independent features, documentaries and short films to Memphis from all corners of the country.
