Can you believe it? It’s already almost time for Thanksgiving! And do you know what that means? Christmas is right around the corner. I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself how quickly this year has flown by. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend the holidays in Memphis? You can always count on a mild winter filled with plenty of snow and cheer. Check out these fun holiday events near Memphis for you to enjoy with your family.
Tree Lighting at Peabody Hotel
The Peabody Hotel should always be on your list of places to visit so you can hang out with the resident ducks, but Christmas time is even more magical. During the holidays, the lobby, bar, and mezzanine turn into a spectacle of holiday cheer: there are lights and decorations galore, featuring a full home-made Gingerbread Village and giant Christmas tree. It’s truly a sight to see!
Zoo Lights
The Memphis Zoo gets in on the holiday spirit with beautiful decorations of its own. The property is covered in lighted trails, and even Santa is there to join the party with his workshop for arts and crafts, and of course his trusty reindeer! Hot cocoa and other holiday sweet treats are served, and there’s even an outdoor ice skating rink open during the daytime too. To use the term Winter Wonderland would be an understatement.
Christmas at Graceland
You can’t talk about Memphis without mention of the King, and if there ever was a place that does Christmas right, Graceland is it. They take decking the halls to a whole new level. There’s not an inch of property that goes undecorated, including the front lawn complete with a live nativity scene.
New Year’s at Noon
Though not a Christmas event, this holiday happening is perfect for the family. Hosted at the Memphis Children’s Museum, New Year’s at Noon gives kids the chance to ring in the New Year with a ‘stroke of noon’ countdown! The party offers face painting, a scavenger hunt, cartoon character meet and greets, crafts, and more. Then at 12:00 pm there’s a balloon drop and ‘goodie toss.’ It’s the perfect way to tire the little ones out so parents can celebrate on their own later!
As you can see, Christmas in Memphis is one of the most exciting and scenic experiences in the U.S. We hope to see you out and about this holiday season!
